Announcing the Winners of the DreamItPitch Twitter Contest!

$1400 for the best startup pitch and $500 for the best feedback

After reviewing hundreds of startup pitches submitted on Twitter, as well as the user-generated feedback tweeted by other entrepreneurs, we are excited to announce the winners of the DreamItPitch Contest.

Each member of the DreamIt team had their favorites, and it took some debate – and arm-wrestling – to agree on a winner. As we reviewed the applications we decided that we had asked for the best pitch - and not necessarily the best business idea - so that became our criteria.

For those of you who didn’t win and think you should have, you could be right! There were many, many great ideas and pitches submitted, and a bunch of them could be very strong candidates for our summer program.

And the $1400 Award for Best Startup Pitch Goes to...

Congrats to @fundrevolt, who wins $1400 with this tweet:

"Take control of your money before Bernie [Madoff] does. Join the revolt and get easy to use tools to grow your 401K/IRA."

Honorable Mentions for Best Startup Pitch

First, the book we'd like to read award goes to @yegg for this tweet:

"A book that demystifies how businesses get traction. Made up of interviews with successful entrepreneurs and investors."

And the funniest entry award goes to @meatcards for:

"Business cards made form Meat Lasers and a pinch of Awesome."

Best Feedback on a Pitch - $500 Winner

We also had a $500 prize for the best feedback on a pitch. There were a number of good entries but @publicstufforg provided a number of great, insightful comments that we hope will help those who submitted their pitches. Here are examples of their feedback:

  • "I would try to be more specific on what AdvisorFox actually does. What does it aggregate?"
  • "Clarify why are you offering bike rides. Environmental advocacy? tourism? health? just plain fun?"
  • "I think this is a great example of a clear, 140 character pitch. I get it- well done!"
  • "Too process oriented. Keep it simple & clear: We do X to help Y[customers] b/c of Z[problem]"
  • "Who is the tool for?Need to clarify why removing the social content noise is important/what users get out of it."
  • "Try and mention what biz would use the network for.Target consumers for coupons/deals, questionnaires, etc?"
  • "Good pitch. Leaves me interested in learning more...that's a success in my book!"
  • "Keep it simple and use layman's terms: An urban parking space app that finds you an available parking spot."

Congratulations to everyone for playing and thanks for tweeting this around!
